hand painted cel tower graphics

Big City finished this environmental graphics project recently — this office complex in Irvine CA was rebranding their property with a new name and logo. This freeway adjacent 3 sided cel tower is part of the project. Photo below is how it turned out, progress photos and story follow.

Here is the before picture — the project involved removing the old plastic stud-mounted letter, patching the stud holes, then pressure-washing the entire thing (all three sides), painting the base color then the graphics. Our sign company client then installed new plastic stud-mounted letters.

A complication came with this being an active cel tower. Coordinating with the cellular company that owns it, we worked out a way to work outside of the “hot” area, then have the cel antennas turned off to work in that upper area. The downside (in my opinion) was that the three antennas could only be turned off at around 4am on a Saturday! But that was the way things had to be done.

Below, the lower area letters are removed on the lower area. The device shown tells us if we’re being exposed to dangerous radiation. After coordinating a time to turn off the antennas, we confirmed they were off with the meter. Going back early, early morning is the next step!

You might be thinking about getting this kind of project done, Do you know where to start? I can tell you - contact me, Paul Borne (president of Big City Signs) to find out more.
