Wood and metal make a great combination of materials for our recent monument sign work…
Got a chance to give a completely new look to this monument sign for Valley Christian Fellowship in Menifee CA. This church’s pastor formerly worked in the California surf clothing industry, and his eye for good graphics was obvious in the design of the logo and sign graphics. It really made the difference.

Here are a few details about the process of making the sign…
Here’s what we started with. Underneath everything we did is this massive marble slab with the old name.
Trex wood grain composite boards is typically a decking material. We used these so the sign will hold up and look good for years.
5/8” plywood was cut to size and installed first onto the marble base.
All of the Trex composite was cut to size - here we see one of the face sides and the two ends laid out. The sign is wider and taller than the original marble slab to provide a proper sign upgrade.
Then, off to install!
First day’s work finished — base plywood and Trex composite all assembled together.
The lettering and logo use a brushed metal face laminated to 1/4” black acrylic to provide a nice contrast. Here, the computer drawn paper is cut to provide spacing indications, and the lettering is installed with silicon adhesive.
