Recent work - school gym hand painted BULLDOG mural

Got to hand paint this gym interior mural at Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary School, at Camp Pendleton near San Diego CA. Some project details below…

This long-established school finally got a new gym (and other new buildings) this year. They came to Big City Signs for a mural to be a painted focal point on the interior walls.

The wall material is unpainted brick and block. The mural needed a base color to be laid down first. The base color would help the lettering and graphics paint to keep a nice even gloss level and stand out properly.

The process starts with the paper pounce pattern, the full size design drawn out on a pen plotter in paper strips with holes perforated along the lines. I typically use standard chalk line powder in a cloth bag to pounce the design onto the surface. My blog post on the pounce pattern process is here.

The design is about 50ft wide and 18ft high. That wall material was very thirsty! All that worked together to soak up 5 gallons of base color paint.

You might be thinking about getting this kind of project done, Do you know where to start? I can tell you - contact me, Paul Borne (president of Big City Signs) to find out more.
