SERIES - SOFI STADIUM HAND PAINTED MURALS - PEPSI WALLS

Big City Signs got the call in early 2020 to look at providing hand painted background murals for sponsor signage. The murals / environmental graphics we painted enhanced the signage and helped create the environment that the brand was looking for.

This is second in a series.

Pepsi is a major sponsor for the facility. They have a huge plaza at the main level entrance into the stadium, with display signage – and of course, our painted background work. Here’s what went into it.

When we started this hand painted graphics project in August 2020, SoFi Stadium was still under construction.

The wall surfaces are typically a limestone plaster. First step would be to prep and prime it with an alkali-blocking primer, or the paint would be falling off within a year!

Next, we would apply paper patterns and start painting.

The design was mechanically precise – a gray circle pattern, with metallic silver lines that would pick up ambient light. This is the kind of stuff a sign paintin’ guy can geek out on!

Technically, an issue with silver paint is that if it’s simply brushed on, the paint looks streaky. This would not be acceptable. The solution became clear – we would tape the sides of the silver lines, then give a light sanding to the tape edges. This seals the edge against paint bleeds for a nice sharp line.

Painted until we didn’t have anything to paint anymore! Here’s the final result…

You might be thinking about getting this kind of project done, Do you know where to start? I can tell you - contact me, Paul Borne (president of Big City Signs) to find out more.
